Contract Employment

Contract employment is also known as temporary employment. Contract employment is primarily taken by people who have little or no time to take on a permanent job. Others take contract employment to expand their experience when it comes to working (such as fresh graduates); others take it after they have been unable to land a job for quite some time. Some people, however, take contract employment because they are those who can't seem to get hired for permanent status jobs. Either way, people have different reasons for taking contract employment.

Contract employment, like other types of employment, has pros and cons, with should be considered first. Let's start with the cons of contract employment.

As mentioned earlier, contract employment is temporary. You are only guaranteed work for a specified length of time. After the time indicated in the contract lapses, the contract employment ends, prompting the person to look for other jobs. Another factor that can be considered as a con regarding contract employment is that, at certain times, it takes much longer for people to be assigned to new jobs. Contract employment does not have benefits as well, such as paid vacation and sick leaves. Temporary employees must wait for regular employee status, which happens after several months, or when the staffing agency grants them such benefits. Last, those under contract employment are paid on a project or task basis. This means that if the employee under contract employment does not receive an assignment, he or she is not paid at all.

One of the pros of being under contract employment is that the job varies all the time. This means that the monotony and boring aspect of a job is usually eliminated because the nature of the job allows a person to learn different things and go to different places to do different assignments. Expanding on the thought of learning new things, another advantage of contract employment is that an employee has a wide array of skills after a series of different contract employment jobs; these skills can make anyone's resume much more impressive, thus increasing his or her changes of getting another job as soon as the contract employment ends. This case also applies to those who would soon want to be permanently employed.

Contract employment gives you freedom, flexibility and variety for your everyday life - either to fit your current lifestyle, or to serve as a stepping stone for your next full-time job.
